Kenya has announced the launch of an electronic travel permit for long-distance travelers passing through the country.
The announcement was made by President Dr. William Ruto on Wednesday during the official launch of the Magical Kenya Tourism Exhibition held at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
Ruto has said that the move will enable travelers to get out of the airport and see for themselves how attractive Kenya is.
“Travellers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport between the waiting time before continuing their journeys will now be able to see for themselves how attractive Kenya is instead of sitting at the airport waiting for their time to leave,” said the President.
At the same time, Ruto has said that Kenya has implemented a visa-free policy, making it easier for Kenyans to welcome people from all over the world, including tourists and businessmen and women.
“Kenya can be your home where you and your family can experience the wonders of magical Kenya every day, all the while serving customers anywhere in the world.”
President Ruto said he recognizes the important role played by the tourism sector in creating employment opportunities, developing infrastructure and bringing foreign currency to this country.
By 2023, Kenya received more than two million tourists and brought in 352 billion shillings.
According to Ruto, Kenya aims to attract five million tourists annually by 2027.
On her part, the Minister for Tourism Rebecca Miano said that ambitious efforts are being made to use the tourism sector to stimulate economic growth in the country.
