Angurai South Ward Administrator Herman Emoit suffered a fractured right hand when a matatu he was travelling in landed in a ditch in Kimwanga area along Malaba-Bungoma road.
An Amagoro resident Oduor Oyiengo, who visited the Ward Administrator at Elgon View hospital in Bungoma where he was rushed after the tragic accident, said Emoit was travelling to Bungoma on his way to Nairobi when the accident occurred.
Oyiengo said a child died on the spot while the mother succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Elgon View Hospital.
The matatu driver was referred to Eldoret Teaching and Referral Hospital in critical condition. Sources said the gear of the matatu got locked forcing the driver to lose control of the vehicle before it landed in the ditch.
Oyiengo said the Ward Administrator underwent CT scan at Elgon View hospital where it was established he never suffered any head injury.
He said Emoit lost two of his phones and a wallet with an unspecified amount of money to pickpockets who had disguised themselves as good Samaritans.
Teso North Sub County Administrator Chrisantus Okware availed Teso North Ambulance to transfer the administrator to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu for further tests after he confirmed having been hit by an unidentified object on the stomach.
The accident comes nearly two years after he was involved in another road accident when his car lost control and rolled three times near Lukolis trading centre in Teso South Sub County.
