Sawenge Village, Musikoma Ward – In a landmark development for rural electrification, Kanduyi MP John Makali, in collaboration with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) and the Kanduyi NG-CDF, proudly announced the successful launch of the Stima Mashinani Initiative. This ambitious project is transforming the energy landscape in our communities by providing much-needed electricity to remote villages.
On August 20, 2024, Sawenge Village witnessed the significant milestone of over 172 households being connected to the national grid, marking a shift from reliance on solar panels and ‘tovee’ lamps. This transformation represents a new dawn for these communities, opening doors to improved quality of life and economic opportunities.
“We are thrilled to see our vision for electrifying rural Kenya come to life,” said MP John Makali. “The Stima Mashinani Initiative is more than just a power project—it’s a catalyst for economic growth and a beacon of hope for our rural areas. Our goal is to power forgotten villages and markets, making them vibrant hubs of economic activity.”
Following the success in Sawenge Village, the initiative moved to Maliki Village in Tuuti-Marakaru Ward, where another 130 households are now illuminated by electricity. Kenya Power officials have been instrumental in this process, not only in installing the infrastructure but also in educating residents about safe electricity usage and committing to meter all households within the next week.
Residents are advised to follow the correct procedures to obtain meters to avoid potential issues with Kenya Power. MP Makali emphasized the importance of protecting these investments, noting that any individuals involved in the theft of electrical wires or vandalism of transformers will face stringent consequences.
“Our work is far from over,” Makali stated. “We are committed to expanding this initiative and ensuring that all areas in our constituency benefit from reliable and safe electricity. This is just the beginning of a new era for our rural communities.”
The Stima Mashinani Initiative represents a historic step forward for Kenya, bringing electricity to areas that have long been neglected since Independence. As the project continues to roll out, MP John Makali and his partners remain dedicated to fostering growth and development in every corner of Kanduyi Constituency.
