The Equity Group Foundation Chief Executive Officer  Dr James Mwangi has suggested to the government to focus on creating Covid- 19 treatment centres across the country so as to help in fighting the disease.

He suggested mission hospitals should be equipped to Covid 19 treatment hospitals and promised that the Equity Foundation will support the idea if the government will decide to implement it.

The CEO Mr Mwangi who visited Ortum Mission Hospital donated personal protective equipment in efforts to fight Covid -19.

The Equity Foundation donated 100 goggles, 600 gowns, 2500 nitrile gloves, 10000 surgical masks, 1000 head covers, 200 scrubs, 550 coveralls, 100 kn95 masks and 250 aprons.

Mr. Mwangi while visiting Ortum Mission Hospital said Equity group is at the fore front in fighting Covid- 19 in the country and thus they target to support 60 Mission hospitals by giving them free PPEs countrywide.

He said 60 Mission hospitals across the country will benefit from the donations from the Equity Foundation Group adding that the mission hospitals were set before the inception of the county government and thus they need support from both governments.

He said they adopted 56 County Referral hospitals across the country for the past one year and have maintained them with PPEs kits.

He said 60 Mission hospitals are also under their program and suggested that the country should think of putting up Covid- 19 treatment centres .

“We want to learn from the lessons we want this Mission hospital to become a covid-19  treatment hospital.” He said.

“It will be sad for students to be trained at the hospital then after their graduation they go to other hospitals to work from there. They should be employed at the facilities to deliver services.” He added.

He added that the Mission hospital gave them an opportunity to decentralize the funds and services and enable the locals to get medical attention.

He asked the hospital to utilize the PPEs and every time they face a deficit the Equity Group Foundation will still donate more PPE kits.

He noted that countrywide all Mission hospitals have been supported by Equity Group Foundation.

West Pokot County Governor John Lonyangapuo appreciated the Equity Foundation for supporting health department in the county.

He said the country is grappling with Covid -19 pandemic and the donations are a relief to the medical practitioners.

He requested the Equity Foundation to donate an ambulance for the Mission hospital for emergency services.

“The county government of West Pokot installed isolation centres in all the sub counties. We also have 6 bed intensive care unit at Kapenguria referral hospital.” He said.
