The county government of Nandi has donated an automatic wheel chair of Ksh 200,000 to a handicapped cobbler at Mosoriot area Chesumei sub-county courtesy of the ministry of planning and special programs.
Nandi county Governor Dr Cleophas Lagat, who visited the man at his home in Mosoriot to donate the wheel chair, said that the county government, through the ministry of planning and special programs saw it fit to assist him as he was in dire need.
He said that he had promised to buy him a modern wheel chair which will assist him to move well without much struggle as compared to the one he has been using which needs a lot of energy to drive.
Peter Kimeli Sitienei, a father of three, has been handicapped since he was born but as the saying goes disability is not inability, he has come out to demonstrate it by using his hands to mend shoes despite the fact that he has no legs.
Speaking after receiving the wheel chair, Kimeli who is a close ally to the Governor applauded the efforts made by the county government saying that he will work closely with the government.
He pointed out that his work has been made easier now that he owns a more modernized wheel chair which will enable him to move freely without much problems.
Kimeli is a cobbler at Mosoriot trading center and has been doing the job for the past forty years.
He stated that the job has helped him educate his kids and provide basic needs for his family.
“Rather than being a beggar, I thought it better to find other ways of sustaining a living and that is why i landed on this job,” he said.
Kimeli has been a good example to many people in his area who admire his hard work thus call upon those fond of using their disability to beg in streets to stop the habit and use their hands well to sustain a living.
