Some TNA officials in Nairobi County have criticized the move by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu and Kieni MP Kanini Kega to endorse Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa as Nairobi Governor come next year’s elections. The members led by Nairobi County TNA Official Gitonga Ndegwa and some MPs, notably from Makadara and Embakassi North, were quick to highlight the fact that politicians who don’t hail from Nairobi should not endorse prospective candidates for the county’s gubernatorial seat. Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu was pointed out and bore the brunt of the blames, “The leaders who did this are trying to undermine Nairobi politics,” said Gitonga Ndegwa, Nairobi County TNA official in a press conference. CS Eugene Wamalwa was endorsed by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu, Kiambu MP Jude Njomo, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi and Kieni MP Kanini Kega. They also criticized leaders who use the President’s name carelessly when discussing their political ambitions and moves, in relation to Eugene Wamalwa’s endorsement on Sunday.

The officials’ sentiments were supported by some MPs, who told off Ferdinand Waititu and Kanini Kega for trying to interfere with a stable and dependable leadership in Nairobi County. Makadara MP Benson Mutura insisted there is only one established way of arriving at a suitable candidate, “Everyone who wants to vie must go through a nomination process,” he said, adding that Waititu should concentrate on his region’s politics, given that he ran away from the heated Nairobi political scene.
Apart from the contentious endorsement issue, Gitonga Ndegwa welcomed the Jubilee merger, and said anyone willing to join was welcome, together with anyone who is willing to vie for the gubernatorial seat. The Nairobi governor seat has registerd considerable interest so far, with various candidates having registered interest, these include Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, nominated MP Johnson Sakaja and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.
