Expectant mothers in Nandi have been urged to visit clinics for antenatal care and regular check ups and opt for delivery at health facilities. The senior manager for the Safaricom M-Pesa Foundations Henry Kilonzo while speaking in Kapsabet County referral hospital where he donated baby packs, said it’s more secure and convenient when women give birth in hospitals rather than in homes.
He said delivering at home poses a danger to both the mother and child and may lead to birth related complications, “Delivering in hospitals is safe and more secure. It’s every woman’s joy to have a healthy baby and due to that, expectant women should always seek delivery services at health facilities.”
He noted that the Safaricom Foundation is keen to ensure the safety of expectant mothers and the donation of pregnancy and baby kits will go a long way to ensure their safety is catered for.
He said the County government of Nandi is keen to improve maternal health care and plans to operationalize a modern maternity unit at Kapsabet County referral hospital and Safaricom will partner with them ensure the project is a success.
