A family which lost seven children in the West Pokot landslide tragedy has appealed for help, saying they don’t know how they’ll restructure their lives given that only one kid remains. Kapel Ariwonyang and his wife Josephine Kapel narrated that they had gone for a meeting in the neighbour’s house, and it started raining. They came back to find a huge stone where their house had been situated and couldn’t comprehend the turn of events.
The family is calling on the government and other well wishers to help them start their lives afresh. Josephine Kapel said all their livestock and property was swept away and that they had Kshs 200,000 which they also lost. The children who perished were in primary school, one in secondary school, and some hadn’t even started going to school.
Only one boy, Wilson Pkopis, remains after the tragic weekend events, who is in class 6 at Tamkal Primary school. The boy ran to the neighbour’s house for cover when it started raining.
