Police in Likuyani are holding in custody a father for causing the death of his twelve year old daughter in Riverside village, Sinoko location.
Confirming the incident Musemwa sub location assistant chief Trizah Miloya Oyando said the deceased Lydia Khalayi a pupil at Mbururu primay school plunged herself in River Nzoia while running from his father Felix Majanga Muhavi who wanted to punish her.
She said the suspect who had remained home with the children after his wife travelled to visit a relative, sent the girl a jug of water but the girl who was busy playing with her friends didn’t hear him and continued with the play, a move that angered the father who took a rod to punish her.
When realizing that the no nonsense father wanted to punish her, the girl fled away and ran towards the river as the father ran after her.
The local administrator said the minor went and hid in a thicket near the river but the father started throwing stones in the thicket forcing to jump into the river in an attempt to cross to the opposite side of Bungoma county but she unfortunately drowned.
The incident angered residents who attacked the man with all manner of crude weapons threatening to lynch him before the assistant chief intervened and managed to save his life and later handed him to police officers from Matunda police station.
Efforts to search for the girl’s body are still on.
