A nine year boy in Namilama village Kabuchai constituency has been beaten to death by his father for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.
According to the area chief Boniface Wanjala, Mr. Khamala Karani took the action after he was called by a neighbour informing him that his son had followed the traditional circumcision dancers popularly called ‘Basinde‘ and had been beaten thoroughly for stealing a mobile phone of one of the dancers.
The chief said the nine year boy had followed the traditional dancers without informing his parents and that the father had taken the action the eve of Saturday when the wife was reportedly said to have gone to her parents after a quarrel between the two..
“The man had been quarreling with his wife so when the incident happened the wife was not there. The boy suffered a lot because it looked as if the accused had tried to chop off his hand fingers.” Mr. Wanjala affirmed.
He associated the incident with the domestic quarrel that the family had been having. The area chief said it seemed the father had directed his anger to the innocent boy after the wife ran away.
Mr. Wanjala however, urged the residents at large to seek farther advice on matters relating to the discipline of a child. saying that the matter could have been solved if the culprit had made an effort of seeking advice.
Mr. Wanjala asked the residents to stop subjecting their children to tough disciplinary cases that that may lead to them ending up dying.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Bungoma referral mortuary as the police officers initiate investigations into the matter.
The father was arrested and taken to Nalondo police station where he is awaiting to be taken to court.
This incident comes a month after another man was lynched by angry mob for killing a nine month baby in Namaondo village Kabuchai sub county.
