Normal business has been interrupted at the Busia County government offices following a fire outbreak that has burned down finance office.
The fire that broke out at 2 am on Wednesday morning completely destroyed files, dealing with finance content in the County.
Busia County Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi told journalists that the cause of the fire which has caused enormous damage is unknown and was contained by fire brigades before it spread to other offices, “The fire broke out at 2 am in the finance office and destroyed files although fire fighters arrived on time and put it off before it spread to other offices.”
Mulomi added that there is no cause for alarm as the damaged files had been backed up, “Financial officers are on the way coming to assess the situation and the police have also launched investigations to determine its cause.” The Governor’s office which houses the affected office among others has been cordoned off and no staff has been allowed in.
The incidence has raised questions among Busia County residents who suspect the fire was deliberately started to destroy evidences of various graft related cases.
