Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC chairpesron Wafula Chebukati has announced that the first batch of ballot papers to be used in the 2022 August polls has arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Aiport (JKIA) on Thursday morning.
Chebukati has affirmed that IEBC is an independent body and therefore not directed by any individual, or authority but only answerable to the constitution.
He has added that there are no extra papers that will be printed as being alleged by a section of politicians and said ballot papers that will be dispatched to any polling station will be equal to the number of registered voters in that particular polling station.
Chebukati has said this during an engagement forum with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Mkenya Daima and other stakeholders to brief them on the 2022 General Elections preparedness.
This comes amid speculations from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has colluded with the Greece Company that was awarded a tender of printing ballot papers to print extra papers to use in rigging elections in favour of Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate Dr. William Ruto something that made the Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga to threaten not to participate in the 2022 August polls if IEBC won’t assure Kenyans on free, transparent and fair electoral process.
Chebukati has said that preparation of staff who will manage the elections is ongoing and recruitment of Presiding Officers, clerks and other staff is going on and added that each polling station will have six IEBC staff and two police men for security purposes.
He has assured Kenyans that security apparatus has assured them of enough security therefore Kenyans should not be worried but to go cast their vote without fear of their security.
