Five people sustained serious injuries following an accident that involved two vehicles, a motorbike and a wheelchair on Thursday evening at Kipkaren market at the boarder of Kakamega and Uasin Gishu Counties.
According to eye witnesses, the 5:30 pm incident occurred after the brakes of a canter lorry that was descending towards a petrol station at the market failed before colliding with a salon car that was travelling from the opposite direction.
The canter then proceeded to hit a motorbike rider with his passenger before knocking a disabled woman who was being pushed on a wheelchair at the market while carrying her three months old baby.
The disabled woman together with her baby and another woman who was pushing them on the wheel chair sustained serious injuries. “The woman usually survives by begging and she always come here every market day like today to beg from business people and customers, but its quite unfortunate this has happened leaving her together with her three months toddler and their caretaker in critical condition. We pray that she’ll be fine,” said one of the business women at the market.
Also the motorbike rider Mr. Petero Menjo together with his passenger were also injured in the incident . The injured were later rescued and rushed to Lumakanda County hospital.
