Five examination officials including a teacher have been arrested for allegedly engaging in KCPE exam malpractices at Kapterema primary school in West Pokot County. The teacher, Vincent Lorma, was caught taking pictures of science exam questions paper in the exam room using his mobile phone.
West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello said the teacher was not allowed to be in the school premises during exam period and officers are investigating the intention behind taking photos while pupils were sitting for their science paper. “All teachers were not allowed to be in their schools during exam period. Centre managers are the ones in charge. We are investigating why he was taking photos in the exam room,” he said.
Apollo added that the centre manager Flora Soprin, the supervisor John Limangura, the invigilator Godfrey Ochieng and the national police reservist Longolekau Lonyangiro who was manning the school were also arrested to explain why the teacher was allowed in the school compound.
The five culprits who are being held at Kacheliba police station are expected to be arraigned at Kapenguria law courts. Apollo added that arrangements had been made to ensure a new center manager, supervisor, invigilator and security personnel are deployed. “Those colluding to steal exams won’t be spared.”
