Five people died on the spot while several others were injured in a tragic road accident involving a lorry and a public service vehicle at Kibunde along the Kimilili-Bokoli route on Tuesday afternoon.
Confirming the incident area assistant chief Jacqueline Makhanu said the driver of the lorry which was loaded with sand lost control and rammed into the Nissan vehicle that was coming from Bungoma killing the five instantly.
She said the area is a dark spot since most accidents have been occurring ever since the road was rehabilitated and called upon the relevant authorities to erect bumps at the place to avoid more accidents to occur.
The sub chief further cautioned pedestrians as well as drivers to be careful while approaching the spot saying the people’s lives are precious and they don’t want to lose more lives.
The injured were taken to Kimilili sub County hospital for medication even as police launched their investigation in to the cause of the accident.
Her sentiments were echoed by area residents who called upon the department in charge of the road to have bumps erected at the spot with immediate effect saying many drivers have been driving carelessly on the road.
They threatened to hold peaceful demonstrations on the road if action will not be taken to the bumps put on the road saying they have a right to have their lives protected.
