Passengers in various airports in the country are stranded following the start of a strike by the aviation industry workers’ union (KAWU), protesting plans to lease airport operations to the Adani Group Company.
The strike has paralyzed operations at all airports in the country, while the Secretary General of the KAWU party, Moss Ndiema, is calling on travelers who intend to use airports in the country to use alternative plans.
The General Secretary of the KAWU union, which represents workers from the airport management board KAA, the flight management board KCA, Kenya Airways KQ, Tradewinds Aviation Services and Eurocraft Agencies, has called on the government to set aside its plans to lease the management of airports to Adani Airports Holding, based in India.
At the same time, Ndiema said that the members of the party want the council to manage airports in the country (KAA) and Kenya Airways (KQ), to consider the joint agreement reached by the party and which has not been implemented.
Through a letter written to the acting Director General of the airport management board Henry Ogoye and the chief executive officer of Kenya Airways Allan Kilavuka, the KAWU party demanded the resignation of the board of directors of the airport management board in the country together with Kenya Airways employees who were part of the group that negotiated and reached an agreement for the presence of a special investor to manage operations at the international airport in the country, JKIA.
