FORD Kenya have rescheduled party primaries in Kiminini and parts of Saboti sub counties to Wednesday. The nomination process was marred with delays and violent reactions in some areas in Trans Nzoia County.
Grace Katasi, who is the party’s Election and Nominations Board Chairperson said this was as a result of the delays and violence which was experienced in some parts of the region during the party polls. Boxes containing ballot papers at Masaba, Mufutu, and Sikhendu primary schools were set ablaze yesterday after voters noted some gubernatorial aspirants’ names were missing.
The matter of contention was that Governor Patrick Khaemba was given a direct ticket, something that irked the supporters of other aspirants, including Andrew Wanyonyi, who communicated to the party Elections Board and urged his supporters to be calm.
According to the statement from the party, the decision was arrived at after consultations within the party, “The board in consultation with the party management hereby suspends the nomination exercise in Kiminini and parts of Saboti until Wednesday,” said Ms Katasi.
