Ford Kenya wrangles and differences took a new twist at the funeral of one of Bukusu elders in Misikhu ward in Webuye West constituency after the two factions faced each with Kiminini Mp Dr. Chris Wamalwa being chased away by rowdy youths allied to Wangamati – Wamunyinyi . The funeral began well at Lugulu village as guest trickled in to give their last respect to Mzee Augustus Wanyama Situma who was one of Bukusu council leaders, that had guided other leaders well and was very inspirational and instrumental during Mabanga declaration that was meant to bring Luhya leaders together after having differences for along time and derailed development.
Among those who had arrived was senate speaker Mr. Kenneth Makelo Lusaka, Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati, his counterpart Trans Nzoia county governor Mr. Patrick Khaemba, several Mps led by the host Mr. Dan Wanyama and several others from the two counties. The service was moving on well when Trans Nzoia women rep Mrs. Janet Nangapo was on the podium addressing then Kiminini Mp Dr. Chris Wamalwa arrived only to be received by rowdy youths at the entrance and hell broke loose.
Youths could not allow Dr. Chris to seat and even intervention of leaders could not be accepted hence the Mp had to be whisked away by the host Mp as the hostile youths who were chanting anti-Wetangula faction saying Dr Chris has been on the record abusing leaders from Bungoma county especially the Ford Kenya faction led by Mr. Wamunyinyi and Eseli together with Bungoma governor Wangamati. Chairs broke down, people among them leaders ran for their lives as fights took the center stage with board guards putting serious security on their elected leaders as old men and women suffered a lot.
The chaotic funeral took more than a half an hour to cool down with serious intervention from all leaders but eventually youth heed to the voice of the leaders and allowed the funeral to proceed after confirming that Kiminini Mp had left. However, it was surprising that no leader apart from trans Nzoia governor who lightly criticized the act of youths something some of the residents said it may have been planned by some leaders. Bungoma senator Moses Masika who had attended the funeral earlier and left to another neighboring funeral criticized the act from the youths and asked police to look into the matter and bring the culprits to book saying funerals should not be used to settle political scores.
Bumula Mp Mwambu Mabonga and his counterpart Kimilili Mp Didmus Barasa turned their guns to Bungoma senate for criticizing their association with deputy president saying he associated with the second president Daniel Moi when luhya community was struggling to come together and none criticized him, yet he associated with former prime minister Raila Odinga in 2013 general elections while luhya had a candidate in the name of Musalia Mudavadi. He accused him of being a stumbling block to luhya unity and its time the community did away with such leaders who are only keen on their interests.
Bungoma governor and his counterpart however avoided politics with Wangamati outlining his development in Misikhu ward and Webuye West at large promising a municipality for the people of Webuye saying it will help a lot in terms of development with infrastructure being the first priority while Khaemba appealed to Western leaders to unite if they have to make an impact in 2022 general election. Senate speaker praised his track record while he was Bungoma governor saying he laid down strategic plans but criticized the current county leadership of frustrating employees that he worked with saying such act is not good and that everyone has a right to work and nobody should be mistreated.
