Forty injured people have been rescued from the collapsed building in Kapsabet after a search and rescue operation that lasted several hours. Nandi County police commandant Mr. Partrick Wambani confirmed that the forty people included those who were working at the construction site, given that the collapsed building was still under construction.
Wambani confirmed that there were no deaths, two of the affected were in critical condition and were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral hospital for further treatment, while the other thirty-eight were admitted at Kapsabet Referral Hospital and are in steady condition.
He lauded residents who volunteered to help, saying that they played a major role in the rescue process and that they should maintain the same spirit.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, who arrived at the scene of the disaster moments later, condemned the incident, saying investigations to establish the cause of the collapse have commenced and those responsible will be charged. He urged residents and investors to ensure they deal with quality houses and real estate projects when it comes to construction and certified engineers to avoid such cases in the future.
