Four public primary schools in Mautuma ward, Lugari constituency have received a donation of 40 desks from a well-wisher.
Speaking after delivering the desks to Sipande, Mahiga, Muviki and Nabemo primary schools, Mr. Charles Anyona said the donation was to ensure the learners studied in a conducive environment.
Anyona regretted the unfavorable condition the pupils in various primary schools in the area were being forced to learn in most of which are overcrowded and classrooms neglected with learners being forced to sit on the dusty floors, stones and logs.
“This donation is part of my commitment in investing in education so as to achieve improved educational outcomes for our children. By supporting education, we are investing in the future of our youths,” said Anyona who has declared his interest in the Mautuma ward seat in the August 9th elections.
Mr. Anyona has promised to continue supporting more schools in the area and ensure improved academic standards disclosing that apart from the donations he is also currently supporting 27 high school students from Mautuma ward who are in different secondary schools in various parts of the country.
Anyona used the opportunity to plead with school heads to allow pupils to stay in schools as parents struggle to ensure they meet others school requirements.
“Our children are safe in schools, sending them away every time is so dangerous because some of them engage in very bad activities along the way which are likely to sway them away from the academic path and spoil their future, so I beg let us keep them school,” said Anyona.
Muviki primary school Mr. Henry Vidonyi thanked Anyona for the support, saying it will boost education standards in local schools which is wanting partly because of inadequate learning facilities.
His sentiments were echoed by Nabemo primary school head teacher Jessica Iyadi who said the school had had an acute shortage of desks and other learning materials.
