The Director for Gender in Nandi county Mr. George Ondong’a has revealed that gender- based violence cases are on the rise in the region due to effects brought by Covid-19 pandemic.
Addressing journalists in his office, Ondong’a said gender-based violence has increased and there is need for the law to take its course appealing to residents to consider reporting the cases on occurrence.
“As a gender office, we have a data on reported gender-based violence indicating that the cases are on the rise,” said Ondong’a.
The officer asked residents and members of the public to avoid solving this gender-based violence cases locally but instead should report such cases in respective offices to allow the law take its course.
“These cases are not supposed to be handled at home as criminals should be taken to court for prosecution, “he insisted.
He also noted that defilement and rape cases among school girls have led to increase in teenage pregnancies, Nandi having more than ten thousand cases since the outbreak of Covid-19 blaming the vice on boda boda riders.
” I want to warn people who are indulging in sexual matters with school going girls that their days are numbered and will be charged accordingly in a court of law when found, ” he added furiously.
He noted that the boda boda riders are the most culprits taking advantage of school going girls sounding a great warning to whoever will be found that he will carry his own cross.
