Girl child urged to embrace science subjects
Students, especially girls in high schools have been challenged to choose science subjects in their choice of subjects to enable them pursue competitive courses in the engineering and innovative faculties as the country anticipates achieving vision 2030, .
Kibabii university vice chancellor Professor Isaac Ipara while addressing parents and students at Moi girls Kamusinga during the school’s annual general meeting said in order for them to qualify for search courses they must be able to have scored highly in both sciences and mathematics saying the records shows many of them have avoided pursuing such courses in higher institutions of learning.
He disclosed that as a university they have initiated a mentorship program meant to encourage students and teachers to take seriously science subjects saying they will be willing to visit schools in the County to share with them ways of strengthening the subjects among the students.

“We will in the course of this year have a seminar for science subjects which will incorporate a number of players in the sector who will have a role in encouraging students to pursue courses in their various fields to make sure Bungoma County has enough expertise in the faculties” he said
He added that they are looking for well wishers from across the country to help them assist female students who may have been impregnated early but went back to school and are now pursuing courses in different fields saying they have to make it in life.
Bungoma County Kuppet chairman Denson Barasa who also attended the event took the opportunity to call upon teachers to ensure they register to be getting their pay slips online as it has been provided for by the teachers’ service commission saying modern technology is unstoppable as it was witnessed during the television digital migration.
However he said as a union they are still on course to fight for the teachers rights saying they will be following up on the issue of 50%-60% salary increment that they were fighting for as well as the medical cover under contention.
He further called upon the teachers to continue working had in their noble profession saying they have an opportunity of transforming the country towards prosperity saying all the professional have to pass through their hands saying they are the destiny shapers.
Baraza on the other hand called upon parents to ensure they support their children by paying their school fees on time to have their children stay in class to cover the syllabuses in time.
