On September 18, 2024, the world will witness a historic milestone—the 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit. This momentous event, celebrated in South Korea and across 122 countries, brings together global leaders, peace advocates, and citizens under the theme “Creating World Peace Community through Regional Collaboration.”
The event marks a decade of unwavering commitment to global peace, reflecting on achievements since 2014 while laying out strategies for the future.
In 2014, the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) took a bold step toward global harmony by gathering over a thousand leaders from politics, religion, women’s groups, youth organizations, and media from 140 countries at the inaugural HWPL World Peace Summit in Seoul. The summit tackled critical issues such as conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the creation of legal frameworks to secure lasting peace.
This year’s celebration is not just a reflection on the past but a forward-looking initiative aimed at strengthening regional collaborations to address local peace challenges. HWPL is set to host various sessions worldwide, drawing on regional expertise to develop tailored peace strategies, build stronger networks, and harness collective capacities for global harmony.
The event carries the powerful slogan, “Let’s have everyone become a messenger of peace,” emphasizing the role of individuals in fostering peace at every level of society. In a symbolic gesture, HWPL plans to collect and display messages of peace from people around the world, representing a unified desire for peace and unity across all nations.
As the world faces ongoing challenges like military tensions, economic disputes, climate change, and cyber security threats, HWPL, alongside its global partners, remains dedicated to establishing a robust peace governance framework. This framework connects international organizations, governments, and civil societies, reinforcing the collective efforts needed to create a peaceful world.
Reflecting on the importance of this mission, Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL stated at the 9th Anniversary in 2023, “Why should the lives of young people be sacrificed in war? What is politics, and for whom is it for? When war breaks out, it is young people who are sacrificed. Peace cannot be achieved through words alone. We must leave peace as a legacy to the global community where our descendants will live.”
The 10th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit is not just a celebration but a renewed call to action, urging everyone to take up the mantle of peace and work towards a world where harmony prevails. As we look to the future, the commitment to peace that has defined the past decade will continue to inspire and guide efforts to create a safer, more united world for generations to come.
