The national government has assured Western Kenya residents of its commitment to finish the legacy projects it had started. Speaking after inspecting the construction of the Namwela-Kapsokwony road as well as the Musikoma-Buyofu road, Bungoma County commissioner Samwel Kimiti said the projects are on course and expected to be completed in due course. He said the Namwela-Kapsokwony road is 31 kilometers and 15 kilometers of that has already been tarmacked, stating that the contractor is working hard to ensure by next year the road is finished.
Mr. kimiti disclosed that once complete, the road will open up the region saying previously it had been a nightmare to traverse the region to maintain law and order being an insecurity prone area. He also said being an agricultural rich region, it will be easy for the residents to access the market, and he urged them to take advantage of the road. However he cautioned them to be careful saying many accidents have occured on the newly constructed roads, especially boda boda operators.
He also hailed the contractor overseeing the construction of the Musikoma-Buyofu road saying it will ease transport between Bungoma and Busia Counties. The Presidential delivery unit representative Eliud Lelerei saying the legacy projects in the region are meant to support the residents improve their living standards, adding that they are focused on completion before the culmination of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
