The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first coronavirus case in Kenya, since its outbreak in China. Briefing the press, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the patient, who is a Kenyan citizen, was tested positive on Thursday, March 12 after taking herself to hospital. She had returned to Kenya from the USA, via London on the 5th of March, “She was confirmed positive by the National Influenza Centre Laboratory at the national Public Health Laboratories of the Ministry of Health,” said the Health Minister.
However, he said the patient is in a stable position, her temperature has gone down to normal, she can eat and she is behaving normally although she can’t be released until she gets well, “As far as her state is concerned, the lady is OK.”
CS Kagwe has insisted that there is no need for alarm and that the government through the Health Ministry continues to strengthen measures to ensure no further transmission of the diseases in Kenya. Kenya joins a list of other ten countries who have confirmed coronavirus cases, with Ghana, Gabon being the latest to confirm cases.
