The government has declared Thursday will be a holiday, following a court order in 2017 that set aside the scrapping of Moi Day. In a statement released on Tuesday, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i noted that the decision is in line with the provisions of the Public Holiday Act and the decision of the court in Judicial Review No. 292 of 2017.
He has urged Kenyans to mark the day with selfless acts of service to their community..”that seek to promote patriotism, national unity, social justice, cohesion and sustainable development in their communities for the benefit of present and future generations.”
After the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, Moi Day was removed from the calendar of national holidays, but the decision was overturned in 2017 by the High Court.
