The government has directed teachers to report back to schools on September 28th to prepare for the eventual reopening. The move highlights the close proximity of the reopening of primary and secondary schools. Speaking to the press after an education stakeholders meeting on Monday at the KICD in Nairobi, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said teachers can start reporting back to schools between today and 28th September and prepare the schools.
She said the teachers are totally prepared and ready to support the children recover the lost time and save this academic year, “We know our teachers will do this and we ask all of you to support them,” she said. On his part, Education CS Prof. George Magoha said it’s time to call the students back to school.
However, he said the government hasn’t set out that schools are now reopening and that the dates shall be issued after appropriate government processes have been done. He reiterated that people shouldn’t speculate on the dates f reopening and resumption of learning following the announcement, “What Nancy Macharia has said is that the teachers are coming to prepare schools for a possible reopening at whatever time.”
