The national government has built a Kshs 175 million market-Mudete Market-in Sabatia Sub County as one of its flagship projects. Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Aidah Munano said the project which is near completion will be commissioned soon to benefit the locals.
“I have come to inspect the project to ensure it is built to its best standards before it’s officially opened,” said Munano. She said they have completed building 45 flagship markets in the country and further completed over 150 markets which were initiated under the economic stimulus program. “We have built markets in all constituencies in a bid to help traders access market of their produce and create wealth,” said the PS.
She added that the modern market has 85 stalls and every stall will accommodate 10 vendors. Munano said the modern market has a water borehole and water tanks to ensure steady supply of water to both buyers and sellers.
She said the market also has a conference room that can be hired at a fee and will act as a source of revenue to the county government. She said the fully designed market set up by the national government once completed, will be handed over to the county government for management.
She applauded the contractor for finishing the project in record time of less than one year after the first contractor failed to complete it. Munano who was accompanied by area County Commissioner Pauline Dola was at Mudete market, Sabatia Sub County after inspecting the project.
