The government has warned vendors and business people operating in restricted areas around Kenya against hiking prices, even as Coronavirus cases increase. Speaking on Wednesday, Health CAS Rashid Aman said that businesses operating within areas where there has been restricted movement are taking advantage of the situation by hiking prices of the commodities and essential goods they are selling.
Currently, the restricted Counties where movement into and out of the places have been barred are Mombasa, Nairobi, covering the Nairobi Metropolitan area, Kilifi, Kwale and Mandera Counties. Movement into and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa has also been banned.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya has increased to 737, after 22 more people tested positive out of 1,516 samples tested in 24 hours. 21 are Kenyans and 1 is Ugandan. 10 are from Nairobi-Embakasi 4, Kamukunji 3, Kibra 2, Kenyatta National Hospital 1. 8 patients are from Mombasa-Mvita 7, Nyali 1. 3 patients are from Kajiado County, all from Namanga. 1 case is in Bomet, which becomes the latest County to record a case. 22 patients have been discharged, with recoveries now at 281, while 4 more patients have died bringing the number of fatalities to 40.
Highlighting the situation at the Namanga border post, 25 truck drivers tested positive in the last 24 hours, while still on the Tanzanian side. 23 we’re Tanzanian, 1 Rwandese and 1 Ugandan. They were denied entry into Kenya and we’re handed over to Tanzania authorities.
