Nandi County assembly speaker Joshua Kiptoo has urged the national and County governments to address the grievances of health workers.
Addressing mourners at Kapkagaon village in Emgwen constituency, Nandi County during the funeral service of the late Victor Tiony, Kiptoo said it’s high time the government handles the issues raised by health workers, so as to bring an end to the ongoing strike and set up lasting solutions.
The late Tiony was a clinical officer stationed at Kapkangani health center. He succumbed to Covid-19. The speaker noted that more than twenty doctors, nurses, clinical officers in Kenya have succumbed to the Coronavirus so far, leaving a huge gap behind in terms of service delivery, “Both governments should address and tackle amicably the plight of health workers, since it requires urgent attention.” He said it’s sad that most of the health workers have died on the frontline due to a lack of personal protective equipment (PPEs).
The strike started officially on Monday last week, comprising nurses and clinical officers. Services at public health facilities have been heavily affected in several Counties so far, with the government and health workers officials still locked in talks.
