The government has been urged to ensure all teachers and learners are vaccinated against Covid-19 ahead of re-opening of schools and form one admission.
Teso South Member of Parliament Hon. Geoffrey Omuse said there is need for the government to put in place measures including vaccination that will guarantee teachers and learners their safety as they resume learning.
“Schools will be opening in two weeks time and form one students are expected to report in July and they will be crisscrossing the country. We hope the infection rate would have gone down but I also want to urge the government to ensure that teachers and learners get vaccinated so that they are safe.” stated Omuse
The MP who was addressing journalists at Ang’orom Catholic Church after spearheading the confirmation of learners, who applied for bursary, also urged Kenyans to continue observing ministry of health protocols and Corona virus prevention.
“Let us continue putting on masks, wash our hands frequently and observe social distancing so that we prevent ourselves from being infected.” he said
Omuse revealed that at least 24 million shillings will be used to issue out bursary to students from the constituency.“We are going to give bursary to the tune of 25 million shillings and we also have a scholarship program where the best boy and girl in every ward of Teso South will get full scholarship from Teso South NG CDF, again on top of that we are giving ten thousand shillings to the best pupil in every ward of our 78 public schools in Teso South,” added the legislator
He says all these are efforts to boost education standards in the area, adding that his target is to top in the county.
“I also want to thank teachers, parents and pupils because despite all the challenges that we have had we have managed to emerge position three in the county in KCPE 2020. Our target is number one and I remember even in the last results I challenged Hon. Raphael Wanjala of Budalangi that am seeking that position one he was holding. So our target is number one and I hope next year we shall clinch it,” he remarked
