Bungoma County Governor, Kenneth Lusaka, has urged striking nurses to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve their concerns and avoid further disruptions in healthcare services. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art Neonatal Unit at Naitiri Sub-County Hospital in Tongaren, Governor Lusaka emphasized the importance of a functioning healthcare system and the need for collaboration to address the grievances of medical personnel.
“I understand the issues raised by our nurses, but I implore them to consider dialogue as the best way forward,” Governor Lusaka stated. “The well-being of our people depends on a functioning healthcare system and we must work together to find a solution.”
The Governor reassured the striking nurses and the public of the county government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised by medical workers through ongoing engagement. He highlighted that improving the healthcare sector has been a top priority for his administration, and recent steps had been taken to strengthen the workforce.
This week, the county government successfully on boarded an additional 568 health workers, a move aimed at ensuring essential medical services remain accessible to the residents of Bungoma. Governor Lusaka underscored that the enhancement of healthcare services is a critical step in his efforts to improve the overall health system in the county.
“We are committed to improving the health sector, and we will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure that our healthcare workers are supported and the people of Bungoma receive the care they need,” Lusaka said.
The Governor called on all stakeholders, including healthcare workers, the public, and the county government, to work together to ensure the continuity of essential medical services. He reiterated that safeguarding the health and lives of the residents of Bungoma remains a top priority for his administration.
