Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has strongly condemned a section of teachers at Lugulu Girls High School for allegedly playing a part in the withholding of the school’s 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
Speaking at the funeral service of Mama Cecelia Nanyama Kerre in Kamukuywa, Lusaka accused some teachers who had been transferred for various reasons of engaging in political maneuvering by writing letters to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), potentially compromising the institution’s standing.
“It’s very dangerous and a great shame to witness stakeholders in education play politics with the very institutions they are supposed to safeguard,” Governor Lusaka remarked during his speech. He called out the actions as detrimental to the educational integrity of the school, which is a key academic institution in the region. Lusaka further stated that the situation at Lugulu Girls was “completely unacceptable.”
The governor expressed concern over the growing trend of politicking in schools, warning that such activities would not be tolerated. He emphasized that teachers must focus on improving the quality of education and uphold high academic standards rather than engaging in actions that jeopardize the academic future of students.
“We must ensure that all stakeholders work together to create a conducive learning environment, free from political interference. Teachers have a responsibility to foster academic excellence, not to engage in divisive politics,” Lusaka stated.
In his address, Governor Lusaka also took the opportunity to commend the outstanding academic performance of other schools in Bungoma County. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to supporting the education sector and ensuring that the quality of education continues to improve.
