Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called on President William Ruto to deliver on key development pledges aimed at transforming the county’s economy and improving the lives of its residents. Lusaka made the appeal during an interdenominational prayer service held in Cheptais, Mt. Elgon, which was attended by the President and other national and local leaders.
In his address, Governor Lusaka emphasized the importance of strategic investments to unlock Bungoma’s economic potential. He urged President Ruto to prioritize the development of modern markets in Chwele and Kipsigon, which he believes will foster trade and enhance livelihoods for local communities.
“Your Excellency, we stand firmly behind your leadership. I urge you to prioritize the development of modern markets in Chwele and Kipsigon. These facilities will not only enhance trade but also transform the livelihoods of our people,” Lusaka said passionately.
In addition to market development, Governor Lusaka unveiled plans to establish a tea factory in the Mt. Elgon region. He believes that such an initiative will significantly boost agricultural productivity and support local farmers. As part of the broader agricultural development plan, the county government has allocated Ksh. 10 million in the 2024/2025 budget to distribute tea seedlings to farmers at no cost.
Further, the Governor supported the introduction of the shamba system in the Mt. Elgon forest, which would allow residents to cultivate designated land while ensuring environmental conservation. This proposal aligns with Lusaka’s broader vision of promoting sustainable agricultural practices while improving the economic well-being of the community.
On infrastructure, Governor Lusaka urged the President to fast-track the completion of key road projects in the region, noting that improved road networks are essential for facilitating trade, investment, and overall regional growth.
“Improved road networks will not only ease transportation but will also stimulate trade and investment in the region,” Lusaka explained.
The prayer service, which brought together national and local leaders, highlighted the collective commitment to the development of the Bungoma region. Governor Lusaka’s call comes at a time when the people of Bungoma are looking to the government for fulfillment of its promises and tangible development outcomes.
In his response, President William Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to equitable development across all counties, assuring the people of Bungoma that their concerns and development needs would be addressed as part of the government’s broader national agenda.
