West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo has dismissed claims by the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders that residents in the County boycotted the repeat presidential elections.
Speaking in Kapenguria, Governor Lonyangapuo said that residents from West Pokot County voted overwhelmingly for President Uhuru Kenyatta who garnered more than 45% and over 70,000 votes in the four constituencies in the County.
Lonyangapuo urged IEBC to declare Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner. “Elections are over and we need to embark on development. We cannot stretch the country further,” he said, “The opposition is confused and frustrated, they refused to participate in the repeat elections and they should just keep quiet,” he said.
He said that there was a low a voter turnout in the County because of heavy rainfall pounding the area, fatigue while others didn’t vote because the opposition leader had withdrawn and concluded that President Uhuru Kenyatta had already scooped the victory.
He faulted the opposition for changing the National Super Alliance to a resistance movement citing that the move will destabilize the economy of the country.
