West Pokot Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo has dispelled fears, myths and misconceptions about the Covid-19 vaccine. The County boss cautioned residents over cultural beliefs urging them to ignore and disobey those against the AstraZeneca jab.
Speaking to the press in Kapenguria, prof. Lonyangapuo challenged Kenyans to take the jab citing that it was safe.
“We don’t want to be doubting Thomases. When leaders approve something it is good and there should be no doubt,” he said.
Lonyangapuo said that Kenyans should embrace instructions given by the Government and stop relying on outdated, traditional cultural beliefs that can hamper efforts to combat the scourge. “Our County is the only one still washing hands at the main entrance,” said Lonyangapuo.
“Some of this information may be false and potentially harmful. Inaccurate information spreads widely and at speed, making it more difficult for the public to identify verified facts and advice from trusted sources, such as their local health authority or WHO,’ he added.
The governor warned those confusing residents by myths and misconceptions about the jab. insisting that Coronavirus was real and not a joke. He cited an example of Tanzania who ignored the virus initially whereas many deaths from it were being witnessed. “Stop behaving like others did in Loliondo hence many terribly died. Those who pretend to give others herbs should forthwith stop,” said Lonyangapuo.
“Those who are fond of arguments and cases about some things should stop and follow the precautions given out. For Coronavirus they must stop stereotyping based on religious and cultural background,” he insisted.
He challenged leaders to be among the first people to get the jab for Kenyans to embrace them. according to the ministry of health, the first round of the vaccine will be administered to frontline health workers, uniformed officers, teachers and students.
