West Pokot County Governor John Lonyangapuo on Wednesday flagged off food and non food items to the landslide victims in the County. The Governor received the donations from Al–Khair Foundation, Kapenguria business community and staff from one supermarket in the County to go directly to the landslide victims who are camping at Tamkal primary school in Pokot central sub county.
The donation by the Al- Khair foundation was presented by Mohammed Tarikh who said that the aid will go to the affected families, saying what they brought consists of blankets, tents and several bales of flour.
Governor Lonyangapuo appreciated the gesture on the donations saying that they welcome any assistance as the situation still remains dire.
He added that the weather is now better as the sky has remained clear for the first time since Saturday when the incident occurred. Lonyangapuo said he still coordinates the operation with the County Commissioner to make sure the supplies flow to the affected.
He singled out Kenya Red Cross which has remained steadfast in handling the situation. He said that the FCDC Governors who visited the victims on Tuesday led by Mandera Governor Ali Roba among others donated Kshs 2.5 million and that the Council of Governors led by Wycliffe Oparanya is expected to visit the victims on Thursday.
