Governor Kenneth Lusaka has urged the newly ratified Board of Management of the Bungoma Water and Sewerage Company (BWASCO) to prioritize efficiency and reliability in water service delivery across the county.
Addressing stakeholders during a shareholders’ meeting held at Green Ville Resort, Lusaka commended the transparency of the vetting process that culminated in the formal ratification of five board members. He expressed confidence in the board’s ability to meet the water needs of Bungoma residents.
“We believe in the integrity of the selection process and are confident the board will not disappoint our people,” said Lusaka. “This team was chosen purely on merit.”
The Governor attributed the county’s recent exit from the Nzoia Water Services Company (NZOWASCO) to persistent operational challenges that hampered effective water provision. He maintained that the move to establish BWASCO was aimed at addressing those inefficiencies.
“Access to clean and safe water is a basic right. NZOWASCO faced numerous hurdles, and it was necessary for us to make a clean break. BWASCO offers a fresh start and a better path forward,” he noted.
Lusaka also announced that the County Government has allocated KSh 30 million in the 2025/2026 budget to cover BWASCO’s electricity expenses and the purchase of water treatment chemicals.
He assured residents that his administration remains committed to supporting the new board through capacity building and induction programs aimed at enhancing its effectiveness.
“The county will ensure the board is well-equipped to execute its duties with efficiency and professionalism,” said the Governor.
BWASCO was established as a standalone utility provider following Bungoma County’s strategic decision to de-cluster from NZOWASCO in a bid to improve water service delivery within the region.
