Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has expressed confidence that Bungoma residents will vote for the incumbent Governor Kenneth Lusaka. While speaking in Bungoma County a day after IEBC suspended Governor Ken Lusaka and his competitor Wycliffe Wangamati of Ford Kenya from campaigning, the Water CS said the opinion poll, which revealed Governor Lusaka is ahead of his Ford Kenya opponent, gives a true reflection of the state of affairs on the ground.
After IEBC’s decision to call off campaigns by Governor Lusaka’s and Wangamati’s teams, CS Wamalwa said the respective party followers should respect the rule of law and abide by the decision, “We want to urge followers to accept the IEBC decision and respect the law,” he said, adding that Jubilee aspirants in the County will keep on campaigning without their captain. The electoral body made the decision after an altercation between Jubilee and Ford Kenya supporters during the burial of Jubilee campaigner and businessman the late Edward Barasa.
However, Wamalwa assured residents of security, “The government will maintain security and we have enough security to maintain peace,” he said. He criticized politicians for spreading the message of disunity, saying that they should be on the forefront preaching peace, “We should all preach peace and let Kenyans decide.”
He was accompanied by Bungoma Woman representative Reginalda Wanyonyi, who said residents have already decided who they’ll vote adding that they should vote for Jubilee aspirants in all slots, “Vote for Governor Lusaka, Juma Mukhwana as the Senator and me as the Woman representative, and vote for all the Jubilee leaders.” She urged County residents to pray for peace in their churches on Sunday, “Let peace prevail in Bungoma County.”
