A wave of relief and renewed hope is sweeping through the Nzoia Sugar Company community as Governor Lusaka confirms the disbursement of much-needed funds to its workers.
“I’m pleased to confirm that KSh 150 million has officially been released for the Nzoia Sugar Company workers,” the Governor announced. “This isn’t just a number, it’s a commitment fulfilled, a promise kept.”
The Governor confirmed that KSh 7 million of this amount will go directly to retired pensioners, recognizing their vital role in the company’s history. “Their sweat and sacrifice laid the foundation for Nzoia’s legacy,” the Governor stated.
Furthermore, the Governor assured that the plight of the sugarcane farmers is also being addressed. “As I assured earlier, the long-overdue farmers’ arrears are also being addressed because our farmers deserve nothing less.”
This development marks a significant step towards stabilizing the struggling sugar company, a cornerstone of Bungoma County’s economy. The payment of arrears is expected to not only alleviate the financial strain on workers and pensioners but also boost the morale of farmers who supply sugarcane to the factory.
“This is more than just financial relief,” the Governor emphasized. “It’s about restoring dignity, reigniting hope, and fueling the revival of one of our region’s most vital lifelines.”
Governor Lusaka reiterated his commitment to the revitalization of Nzoia Sugar Company and pledged to continue working with all stakeholders to ensure its long-term sustainability.
This comes amid a section of leaders accusing the government for leasing the factory to a private investor.
Nzoia Sugar Company was leased to West Kenya under Jaswant Rai for a period of 30 years.
