Bungoma County Governor, Kenneth Lusaka, has officially launched the construction of the KSh 343 million Chwele Strategic Market, a transformative project aimed at boosting local trade and strengthening the county’s economic infrastructure.
The modern one-storey market facility will provide a state-of-the-art trading hub for over 1,000 local traders. It is designed to support the growth of the local economy and enhance service delivery in the region. The market will feature modern stalls, cold storage rooms, revenue offices, a conference room, an ICT hub, a mother’s room, a washing area, and offloading/loading zones.
Governor Lusaka emphasized the critical role the Chwele Strategic Market will play in driving the county’s economic development. “This project will transform Chwele into a regional economic powerhouse, attracting both local and international investors while spurring further development in Bungoma County,” he stated during the groundbreaking ceremony.
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months, promising significant benefits to the local community, including improved commerce, enhanced livelihoods, and more efficient service delivery. Once operational, the market will contribute to the county’s growth by providing a modern and well-equipped space for traders, thereby elevating the region’s status as an economic hub.
Governor Lusaka’s vision for the Chwele Strategic Market is to position it as a key driver of development in Bungoma County, offering a platform for traders to expand their businesses, connect with new markets, and create employment opportunities.
