Bungoma Governor, Kenneth Lusaka, has issued a firm warning to contractors involved in the construction of Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms, emphasizing that substandard work will not be tolerated. This statement came during the launch of the distribution of ECD learning materials in Bumula, where the Governor expressed his dissatisfaction with the poor quality of some construction projects.
In a direct message to contractors, Governor Lusaka declared that payments would be withheld for any subpar work. He highlighted concerns over the safety and hygiene of facilities in some schools, stressing that young learners should never be exposed to unsafe environments. “I want to make it clear to contractors handling ECD projects that shoddy work will not be tolerated. For instance, the contractor responsible for this particular school should not expect payment until they return and rectify their mistakes,” Lusaka said.
The Governor’s stern warning comes as part of his administration’s broader push to improve Early Childhood Education in the county. Governor Lusaka emphasized that his government remains committed to enhancing the learning environments for young children. This commitment includes plans to recruit additional teachers and establish a comprehensive scheme of service to facilitate orderly promotions for ECD educators.
Acknowledging challenges in teacher recruitment due to budgetary constraints, Lusaka reassured the public that these issues have now been resolved and that recruitment efforts will proceed as planned. In the meantime, the distribution of ECD learning materials will continue across all wards in the county, ensuring that young learners have access to essential educational resources.
