Trans Nzoia Governor Goerge Natembeya has thanked all the county employees in ensuring the county performs well and ranked in position three amongst the 47 counties.
Speaking live on Mumbo FM, and West TV, he reiterated that he made a promise to people of Trans Nzoia county to make changes that would realize a progressive development. However, he admitted that he never expected that he could do a lot within one year to be ranked amongst the best performing counties.
He went ahead to talk of the milestones that the County has achieved. He said he had to put everything in order to make sure every department is working. He noted that work ethics has been one of the milestones that together with other stakeholders have tried to put in place. He said that without work ethics, there can’t be realization of positive results.
On education, he said that there is a plan to ensure those students who score 250 and above marks and fail to join their respective school, will automatically receive county government sponsorship. The County Chief confirmed that the County government of Trans Nzoia has already paid school fees for more than ten thousand students who joined form one.He said one twenty million shillings were allocated to serve the case in the previous financial year.
He also confirmed that his government has employed more than seven hundred and fifty ECD teachers on permanent and pensionable basis. He added that his government targets to employ up to two thousand ECD teachers as required.
Natembeya also made it clear that the County has put in place plans to see school going children in primary schools get milk twice a week. On farming, he said that this year the county harvested around seven million 90 kg bags followed by Uasingishu County with 4 million bags. He said that his government gave out free fertilizers and seedlings to farmers to realize good results from their farm. The County government has also employed extension officers in the field to ensure farmers get the right information on farming. He said this year the county plans to employ another set of 60 extension officers. Natembeya also confirmed that the county government has launched a plan to boost coffee farming by giving free seedlings to farmers. He says apart from
The New initiative in farming at the moment is to encourage farmers to take up sunflower farming by giving them free sunflowers with a ready market. He said that the county has also set aside one hundred million to buy certified seeds for farmers.
On Health, the Governor said the time he took over the officer form, the situation was not good. He said there were no enough medicine, the hospital facilities were in bad shape. He said the county is working to ensure the level five hospital is complete and necessary departments are functional.
He confirmed that he upgraded several hospitals back to Sub County hospital bearing in mind that most of those hospitals had been downgraded to health centres due to bad services by the previous regime
On infrastructure, he said that he found the road network in a bad state. However he confirmed that there is already work going on several roads in the county. He further explained that the work is also being derailed by the anticipation of elnino where contractors are reluctant to start off their work.
