The Kenya Academy of Sports has dispatched its senior officials among them scouts to the Governor Wycliffe Wangamati Sports Tournament.
Meeting Governor Wangamati on Saturday in his office in the Governor’s Auditorium, the officials led by veteran coach and scout John Bobby Oyugi said their team, which has been in Bungoma for a week now, has already identified a minefield of talent in different sports including football and volleyball.
Briefing the Governor on the academy’s mission in Bungoma, Mr Oyugi said the tournament is a perfect fit to identify and develop sports talent.
According to Oyugi, some identified talent will be put through intensive training for onward placement in professional sports while young talents have an opportunity to join American universities through sports scholarships.
Other officials from the Academy include George Evans Masitsi (Scout), John Okwemba, (Partnerships), Patrick Wekesa (Talent Development) and John Walukhu (Scout).
The visiting delegation handed over a present of two balls in part to appreciate and laud Governor Wangamati on the novelty of this tournament, saying it will go a long way in changing the lives of sports men and women in this County.
The Academy will be signing an MoU with Bungoma County on training and placement of identified talent.
