Govt. urged to increase budget for fertilizer
The Bungoma county agricultural committee has been urged to increase the budget allocations of buying the subsidized fertilizer to attain the need of the large number of needy people in the county.
Speaking to residents at Mukuyuni in Kabuchai constituency, the ward administrator for Mukuyuni Job Wabomba said that he is wretched with the large number of needy widows and farmers that can’t afford the costs of farming and therefore in need of the free farming inputs.
He said that the four hundred people who have been benefiting from the project are very few therefore urged the agricultural committee to increase the budget in support of poor families.
“Fertilizer is on high demand in this Mukuyuni ward but those who were chosen through public vetting with the support of residents who assisted us to get the farmers who are in need to benefit freely are only 400.” he said.
“Many people do really need this subsidized fertilizer therefore I urge the agricultural committee in the county to increase the allocation budget to cater for the needs of all residents who are in need.” he added.
“I also thank the county government for starting such a project that will help in eradicating poverty,” Wabomba posed.
Wabomba also requested those that have been given the subsidized fertilizer to utilize it well so as to achieve the dream of food security by having enough harvest, warning that whoever will be found selling the fertilizer to other farmers will face the law.
“I want to warn those who are trying to drag behind our development by selling the fertilizer to other people, this input is meant for fighting poverty in the county. Therefore if you will be caught selling the fertilizer know that you shall be dealt with lawfully,” he reiterated.
