Govt. urged to nurture talents in sports
Speaking at Lukhuna primary school during the Tongaren sub County primary schools games tournament Lawyer Nickson Sifuna said talents must be nurtured at the grass root level and the education system should be able to produce an all-round student who is fit both in academics and in co-curricular activities.
Sifuna said the secondary schools should also be scouting for talents at primary schools sporting events so as to have the best students be offered scholarships in their schools as a way of motivating them to continue pursuing further their talents.

He called upon the government to introduce academies for various sports in the 47 counties to ensure consistency in nurturing the talents as some of the students who don’t have sponsors end up wasting their talents in the villages.
Sifuna further challenged the Tongaren constituency development fund committee to also set aside some funds to sponsor such tournaments as a way of encouraging the community to be active in games and sports saying it will divert the minds of people from engaging in activities of law breaking.
However he urged parents to also let their children participate in school games activities rather than concentrating on academics only saying it is a way of relaxing their minds as well as the interaction promotes national cohesion.
During the event Sifuna also donated uniforms to the teams and promised to keep on working with the community to motivate them in their talent oriented programs in the community saying it is a high time that they be appreciated.
