Victor Wanyama from Matete Sub-County, Kakamega County was a very hardworking person full of passion in education, his dreams were always to have a well-paying job after accomplishing his higher education.
Wanyama, 30, knew that education was the only key to success leading to a good life as it could offer one many chances and job opportunities when he or she has papers.
He did his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and he secured a chance in Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology to pursue a degree course in Bachelor of Commerce, truly as he recalled he knew this was an open door and his journey to a better life.
Wanyama’s dreams had finally come true as he always admired to join a high institute of learning, this chance made him pursue the course with seriousness he worked extra hard and was able to graduate with Second Upper Honors.
“I knew that being a graduate, getting the job was near to living my dream,” he narrated.
According to Victor, this achievement brought light to his family and the community at large as the parents and the people around were so proud to produce a graduate in his village as most of the children around the area always drop out of school at a young age.
He wanted to show the children around and the entire country that all is possible and every dream can be achieved despite the background, the hardship and the surroundings. The only thing he believed in was focus and great determination.
After completing his university education in the year 2016 with great achievement, he began searching for employment, he applied for a job in different organisations and companies which include the Nzoia Water Company but his efforts yielded no fruit.
The most encouraging part is that Victor didn’t believe in giving up, he continued with the job hunting process from one organization to another, one company to another, one office to another and was always positive and had hoped that he would secure a job but it didn’t work out.
Victor said things had become so tough in the job market as many youths have been hoping to graduate and securing jobs but it’s very hard this was not the end of journey for Wanyama as he doesn’t give up and believes he is going to achieve despite the glaring challenges.
“One day, an idea struck in my mind, thinking of starting my own business and employing myself, I looked at the surroundings of Matete and realized that I could establish a business and be my own boss,” Wanaama recalls.
Wanyama decided to venture into the car wash business, he cited a location near Matete market center along the main road, Eldoret- Kakamega highway.
He bought a few pieces of equipment and ensured that he was connected with water.
Wanyama began his car wash business in 2018 after two year of looking for employment without success. He remained positive and so industrious that his business attracted many motor vehicles and motorbikes.
The business during initial stages was not good in terms of payment as he could make one hundred shillings a day and this didn’t discourage him as he believed gradual positive progress and the pay rose to five hundred shillings a day.
Now he is able to make shs 1000 every day which according to him is able to carter for him and his family, he washes cars, lorries, truckers and motorbikes and each has different prices, a car goes for shs 150, a trucker shs 250, a lorry goes for shs 300 while a motor bike goes to the price of shs 50.
His work has attracted many clients and has been given credit by the customers’, Wanyama now advises the youths to try and look for something to do however small the pay might be as it’s better than nothing since success progressive in one’s life.
Wanyama continued that youths should always find something beneficial in their lives once they are out of school.
“You would rather find something to do than to just wait or sit back and just lament and feel discouraged about everything as life is a matter of trying to find what you can do,” Wanyama advised the youths.
He emphasized that every doable business idea if put in practice will always work, and with much seriousness can pay and become successful than what one ever thought.
Wanyama looks forward to opening light and heavy motor vehicle spare parts in Matete Market once accumulates enough capital.
