The journey toward fully implementing the Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Act of 2013 has been long, collaborative, and at times complex.
A significant milestone in that journey has been reached with the official launch of the Harmonized Draft PBO Regulations, setting the stage for a more enabling and coordinated operating environment for public benefit organizations across Kenya.
The vibrant launch event, held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), was presided over by Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration. This landmark moment represents a major step forward in aligning regulatory frameworks by merging draft regulations developed by both government agencies and the PBO sector.
Beginning June 19, the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA) will lead a countrywide public participation process to gather views and feedback on the draft regulations. This one-month exercise aims to ensure that the final regulations are inclusive, practical, and reflect the needs and realities of all stakeholders in the sector.
“We urge all PBOs and stakeholders to actively take part in this process. Your voice is essential in shaping regulations that will impact the future of our work and communities,” said Mwambu Mabonga, Chair of the PBO Authority.
This harmonization effort reflects a continued commitment to fostering a supportive legal and operational environment for public benefit organizations to thrive and better serve the people of Kenya.
