Lawyer Nelson Havi has won the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Presidential elections which were held on Thursday. Havi, who was the only contestant not in the LSK Council, is set to take over from predecessor Allen Gichuhi. He overcame stiff competition from Charles Kanjama, Harriette Chigai, and Maria Mbeneka, with 10,764 lawyers eligible to take part in the vote.
Lawyers congratulated Havi on the landslide victory, with Kanjama lauding Havi for running a bold and effective campaign that captured the confidence of lawyers across the country, “I congratulate him on a race well run and, as a democrat, am happy to accept the will of the voters,” said Kanjama in a tweet. Havi’s term is set for three years, from 2020 to 2022.
