Today being 10th November, 2022 has been a day of joy to hei-mothers or mothers who are infected with HIV in Bungoma County. The event that was held at Bungoma Referral Hospital brought together all mothers who are HIV positive in almost all Sub-Counties who managed to give birth to children who are HIV negative under the directives of health personnel and mentor mothers. The major goal being ELIMINATION OF MOTHER TO CHILD TRANSMISSION – ( ELMTCT).
Different mothers shared their experience of being HIV positive but managed to carry their pregnancy up to delivery and managed to give birth to children who are HIV negative. These mothers did not hide their joy as their children graduate to another level that’s attaining two years without the virus.
Today’s theme was “Save our generation, ELIMINATE mother to child HIV Transmission”. The event was sponsored by USAID and DUMISHA AFYA initiative which covers both Bungoma and Busia Counties and they were able to procure desktops, laptops and solar panels that are going to support different facilities to do their work. That is in reaching to more people who are HIV positive, so that mothers can give birth to children who are virus free.
